Fold are a Leeds-based nu jazz collective that has featured before on our blog. Their new piece also features another good friend of the blog, saxophonist Emma Johnson. It’s called Sustain.
By Graeme Smith
The group are releasing Sustain to celebrate ten years of the project, and to pay tribute to the members they’ve lost along the way. As such, the guys have incorporated nods to previous releases and an upbeat yet nostalgic feel to their arrangement. Bright brass joins with a funky groove and snippets of philosophical spoken word. It’s simply a joy to listen to.
Here’s to at least another ten years of Fold! Having only just discovered them around this time last year, I’m ready to hear much more from them. You can listen to Sustain below.
