Followers of the blog will likely recognise the name Melanie MacLaren. She’s become something of a favourite of mine with her recent releases and I am always excited to see she has new music out. Her latest is a cynical yet humorous story of the absurdity of modern life. It’s called Dissociating at a Tiki Bar in a Landlocked State.
By Graeme Smith
In the track, Melanie paints a picture of her surroundings through keen observation and subversion. Yet, there’s something deeper going on than mere observation, and the emotion of the piece is brought to life through Melanie’s expressive vocals and slightly distorted traditional folk instrumentation.
It’s definitely one for fans of early Phoebe Bridgers. You can give the track a listen below.
