Tobias Arbo is a Stockholm-based, Swedish musician who has just released his debut single Saudade. The title is a Portuguese word that doesn’t completely translate to English, but alludes to the longing of missing something you never had.

As you’d expect, there is a certain sense of wistfulness about Saudade, coupled with nostalgia that is brought out distinctly through its home-movie style video. What really drew my attention to Tobias’s track, though, was his way with words. There’s some powerful imagery swirling around his melancholic world.

Saudade is a such a stunning debut, it doesn’t feel like a debut at all. Looking at Tobias’s musical background and formal training, that’s hardly surprising. He clearly knows his craft and has found his voice. I’m excited to hear what comes next from him.
