New Music: Serena – Heartworm

Serena is a London-based artist who has featured a couple of times before on the blog. In April last year, I discovered her through her electro pop number Ophelia, which was shortly followed by her Welcome To Wasteland EP. Her new track sees her moving in more of a rock direction. It’s called Heartworm.

Heartworm is about a parasitic relationship, told through the macabre imagery of a disease that affects dogs. It’s not for the faint-hearted but there is a pop accessibility to Serena’s brand of rock. Her vocals are beautifully expressive during an intimate first verse and Heartworm’s chorus has a soaring sense of catharsis.

Serena grew up in Italy where she took to music at a young age. After spending some time in the US, she’s settled her in the UK. It’s so nice to have her back on the blog. Heartworm is a banger. You can check it out below.
