Sunbeam are a Whitby-based alternative rock band who have somehow evaded my attention before now. They’ve just burst onto my radar thanks to their catchy new track Empire.
By Graeme Smith
There’s something quintessentially British about Empire, but it’s perhaps not about what you think. The “empire” in the track refers to a relationship that has come to and end. Its heart-breaking story is tempered by its bright and lively indie pop instrumental arrangement that will have you bouncing around your room.
Sunbeam are James Organ-Simpson on vocals, Nicky Baxter on guitar and kick drum, and Sean Stuart on lead guitar. They’ve been around since 2015 and are currently on a mini-tour. If you happen to be in Manchester on 25 March, or Newcastle on 30 March, then be sure to catch them live.
