The Midnight Vortex are a London-based alternative rock band who have featured on our blog a couple of times before. Last year, Jane included them in her Grunge Forever round up, before following that with a place on her Monthly Favourites list. Now it’s my turn to run the rule over their music. Their latest is called Addicted To You.

As you might guess from its title, Addicted To You is about unhealthy infatuation. A stripped-back intro slowly builds, with a rising tension that explodes into a hard, classic rock climax ninety seconds in. A sustained, power punch of a riff carries you through the rest of the track’s expansive journey.

The Midnight Vortex are Bri Macanas on vocals and percussion, Mouad Qach on lead guitar and backing vocals, Robin Thunders on lead guitar, Danny Sands on bass and backing vocals, and Leo Kuma on drums and backing vocals. The project started in 2020, but only arrived at its current line-up in 2022. Collectively they’re inspired by the likes of Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and The Doors.
