Jonsjooel is a Helsinki, Finland-based artist and composer who has just come to my attention thanks to the first single release from his upcoming debut solo album Lullabies For Younger Self. It’s called Sopranino.
By Graeme Smith
With Sopranino, Jonsjooel wanted to combine a celebration of life with a critique of materialistic culture. He does this through a floaty and ethereal electronic arrangement that quickly grows and then washes over you. Growling bass contrasts heavenly synths in the most pleasing way and distorted vocals lend themselves to a sense of unease.
Lullabies For Younger Self is an album that explores self-care. Jonsjooel drew inspiration from his late grandmother and strongest supporter when writing it. It’s set for release in September this year.
You can give Sopranino a listen below.
