London-based singer songwriter Issy Winstanley is already on the radar of the likes of BBC Introducing, but I’ve just discovered her for myself thanks to her ode to 20-something life, never have i ever.
By Graeme Smith
In never have i ever, Issy combines folk and pop in a similar way to contemporaries like Maisie Peters, Griff and Dylan. It’s a bright and breezy track, with acoustic instrumentals that bump along at a pleasing tempo. Its lyrics go deep, throwing two fingers up to conformity and embracing honest fun.
Issy has an infectious sound that is going to serve her well in the world of UK indie pop. Set to release her debut EP in the next few months, she’s one to keep an eye on.
