Discovery: Jaws The Shark

Devon-born, London-based Olly Bailey is the man behind Jaws The Shark, an alternative rock and indie project that’s just come to my attention thanks to his new track Suff City.

By Graeme Smith

Opening with a take no prisoners guitar riff and Olly’s characterful vocals, you know instantly that you’re in for something special with Suff City. It’s hard rock in the vein of The Hives, with a easy swagger tempered by lyrics that brim with paranoia. By the time you reach its anthemic chorus, you’ll have found your new favourite rock song.

Jaws The Shark released his first EP Another Day In Paradise in 2022 and it received significant support from the likes of BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio 1 and Radio X. Building on that success, he released his second, self-titled EP the same year.

Suff City will feature on Jaws The Shark’s third EP, Cream, that will be released via So Recordings. You can give the single a listen below.
