Totnes-based singer songwriter Billie Maree first came to our attention in May this year when she featured as one of Jane’s Monthly Favourites. Jane was so into Billie’s sound, she also interviewed her. Now it’s my turn to share some of her music. Her latest is called Young Child.
By Graeme Smith
Billie was inspired to write Young Child while looking after a one-year-old. The innocence of the child brought light to a dark time for her and that’s what’s reflected in the song’s composition. Brightness swirls with melancholy in its stripped-back arrangement. Her poetic lyrics and unconventional style means Young Child isn’t your typical acoustic singer songwriter track. There’s just something wonderfully inventive about it all.
As well as writing and performing her music, Billie also records and produces it. Her debut EP We Belong is on its way in the Autumn. You can check out Young Child below.
