New Music: Apple Shakers – Modern Man

London-based alternative rock duo Apple Shakers have been on our radar since May last year when they impressed me with their rule-breaking track Silhouette. Shares of Wanna Be, Lean Upon My Shoulder and Fight were to follow and now here’s their latest. A satire on stereotypes, it’s called Modern Man.

By Graeme Smith

For the lyrics of Modern Man, Apple Shakers took inspiration from classic Blur, in particular Country House and Park Life. Taking the topic, they’ve filtered it through their unique hard-rock sound, with expressive vocals, a swaggering groove and distorted bass. A cantering chorus gives way to a punchy chorus that will have you jumping.

Apple Shakers are Rory White on guitar and vocals and Basil Steiner on drums and synths. The pair run their own studio in London and have an EP on its way on 22 September, Blood, Sweat & Broke. You can give Modern Man a listen below.
