Discovery: June Rosewell

June Rosewell is a Nashville, USA-based artist whose sound sits between indie folk and indie rock. She’s just caught my attention with her latest, double-A side release that shows both sides of her sound. It’s called Glass / Cosmos.

By Graeme Smith

Glass is a moody indie rock track with some beautifully compelling lyrics that paint a vivid, intimate picture. Rumbling verses give way to a soaring, jangly chorus that reflects June’s influences, including Big Thief, Elliot Smith and Angel Olsen. Cosmos is a love song and uses geology and astronomy as metaphor. Musically it’s melancholically acoustic, led by hypnotic riffs and punctuated nicely with some rise and fall.

June is fiercely independent, and both Glass and Cosmos were DIY recordings at friends’ houses and studios. You can give both tracks a listen below.
