New Music: Rebecca Sichon – Picking Petals

Vancouver, Canada-based pop singer songwriter Rebecca Sichon first came to our attention almost exactly two years ago to the day thanks to her track Innocence. She was back on our pages last year too with her cinematic single Together. Now she’s returned once again. Her latest is a conceptual love song. It’s called Picking Petals.

By Graeme Smith

We all did it as children – “they love me, they love me not” while picking the petals of a flower. That’s the basis of Rebecca’s latest. It’s delivered against a soft but moody instrumental backdrop. There’s a jazziness to the percussion, and to Rebecca’s vocal delivery. The chorus, by contrast, is pure pop, rich with a sultry catchiness.

Picking Petals was co-written and produced by Colin Janz who Rebecca met while participating in Vancouver’s 604 Records’ Songwriting Camp last year. You can give it a listen below.
