Jeán et Joie is the musical project of Grey Jeán who has just come to my attention thanks to their latest single release. An introspective yet elevating track, it’s called Glory Be.

Grey describes their music as “mournful folk with a hopeful glow” and I think that perfectly encapsulates the feeling of Glory Be. The track opens slow and thoughtful, with a looping guitar melody before soaring, soulful vocals come in. What struck me most about the song, though, was the breath-taking poetry in its lyrics. Rich with imagery and emotional phrases, it truly is song-writing at its best.

Jeán et Joie are Grey and their fiancé, Gabrielle Néla, along with drummer and guitar duo Ikaika and Dash from the Los Angeles, USA-based band Flamango Bay. They have an upcoming EP called Bramble set for release this year.
