Wotts are an Ottawa, Canada-based indie pop duo who have featured quite a few times on this blog before, going right back to the start of 2022 when they were included in Jane’s Made In Canada round up. They never fail to excite with their new releases, and their latest is no exception. Taking inspiration from psych bands like Tame Impala and Pond, it’s called WANNABE.

Conceptually, WANNABE follows on from previous single ALLO! While the latter describes the initial moments of falling for someone, the former considers the idea of waiting for connection. It’s a lush and contemplative number tinged with a certain sense of sadness that adds some complexity to its otherwise bright pop. While the dreamy psych rock elements are clear, we are also treated to hip hop undercurrents which makes it difficult to label genre-wise.

WANNABE was produced by band member Jayem who features on the track alongside bassist and guitarist Ricky 100. The track is the second single from their upcoming EP PETALS. You can give it a listen below.
