Based in Edinburgh, Marky Wildtype is a singer, songwriter and producer who has just come to my attention through his latest single release, taken from his upcoming second album If Destroyed Still True.
By Graeme Smith
Marky’s debut album Bruising Words and Bitter Pills was released in 2020 and his latest music sees something of a departure from the sound he introduced back then. Pushing the envelope in terms of experimentation, his latest single Tell Me Again is one that will instantly grab you.
Tell Me Again is an unabashedly angry song. It’s an outpouring of fury played out over a memorable, fuzzy bassline and terse layers of electronica. Marky’s vocals are half-sung, half-spoken, almost whispered in the verse as they deliver their acrid rebuttal to some unknown subject. After two minutes, there is a surprise change of pace before the quirky melody comes back in twice as hard.
I’ve not heard much like what Marky Wildtype is putting out. He’s a breath of fresh air in the world of rock. Find him on Instagram here.
