Sam Roberts is a Liverpool-based pop artist who has just come to my attention thanks to the release of his second single, National T.V.

Having begun to build a reputation on the live scene in Liverpool, where he plays with his band of Lucy Ellen on bass, Elliot Caslin on drums, and George Ke on guitar and keys, Sam is now getting his name out there by releasing music. His debut single You Are The One landed last year and was warmly received.

His new single blends pop with alternative rock. It tells a macabre story of a terrible accident while making a point about a society that’s obsessed with TV and social media fame. An atmospheric, slightly disconcerting intro builds to something a little more familiar. National T.V. gives us some lively and folky indie rock, and Sam’s expressive and emotional vocals seal the deal.
