Discovery: Aoun

Aoun is a Brooklyn, USA-based artist who has teamed up with Big Dumb Baby for his latest track. Exploring the end and the aftermath of a dying relationship, it’s called Shears.

Though Aoun is new to us, we have featured Big Dumb Baby (real name Ashley) on this blog before.

Their collaborative effort, Shears, is a song of two halves, written at different times. The first half was penned during the last leg of a relationship and is softly melancholic. As the track progresses we arrive at the time after the relationship’s end and it becomes explosive, cathartic indie rock. All through, the paired vocals of Aoun and Big Dumb Baby work together sublimely, and the emotion of the track is powerful during its highs and its lows.

Aoun plays guitar and sings on the track, and is joined by Guillermo Goldschmied on bass, Eli Fowler on drums, Sean Brennan on cello, and Tree Palmedo on trumpet. Big Dumb Baby co-wrote and also features. It was recorded in Aoun’s home studio, and was produced and engineered by him.
