Wakefield’s John Carcer is back with his ‘piano shoegaze ballad’

Discovered by Jane for this blog last month, John Carcer is a Yorkshire-based artist quite unlike any other. His new track is called brutalfantasy.

Even John has difficulty describing his new track, suggesting ‘piano shoegaze ballad’. Brutalfantasy is, as you might guess, about having sick fantasies, but John is quick to point out that it’s not autobiographical. Rather, it is inspired by the artist Yung Lean’s approach to the darker side of human nature.

A disorientating intro features captured audio and a moody, raw instrumental. Melancholic vocals come in and the track’s sinister atmosphere is complete.

John has been making music since 2019, transitioning from hardcore scream rap to shoegaze. His influences range from Deftones to the video game Manhunt. His second album my european fantasy is set for release in September.

Brutalfantasy is out now and you can check out its video below.
