Gifts From Crows is the musical project of Richard Laurence, a long-time friend of our blog. Recently, he’s been recomposing his neoclassical pieces for live performance as a jazz trio.
By Graeme Smith
I had the pleasure of seeing Gifts From Crows trio perform live last autumn when I welcomed them to York’s National Centre For Early Music. This new live video gives others a taste of what to expect from one of their performances.
The recording was done at their gig at St. Mary’s Creative Space in Chester in March and sees the trio in full flow performing the soft and ghostly Becoming Autumn. Expressive brass comes together with wave-like percussion and Richard’s gentle keys. You can check out the video below.
If that’s whet your appetite, the trio will be performing at Buxton Opera House as part of Buxton Fringe Festival this Monday, 15 July 2024. You can get your tickets here.
Richard is promising a new album soon, and will be heading back to Motor Museum Studio in Liverpool to record it shortly.
