Lucie Glang stuns with her debut EP, The Game.

Lucie Glang is a German singer songwriter who has appeared on our blog a few times before, first gracing out pages in February this year through her single Friend. We followed that up with a share of her single Seagull in March, then Visions in June.

All three tracks feature on her debut EP The Game. Written over the past decade it explores subjects such as not living for others, the strangeness of interpersonal relationships, and man’s best friend.

The EP opens with Friend which features another York Calling favourite, Dominic Romano, who also produced and mixed the track. Lucie’s compelling vocals are on show right from the off, sung gently over an atmospheric, acoustic instrumental. Dominic takes the second verse and their voices pair well together. It’s a strong start.

Seagull bristles with an alternative pop energy. The imagery in its lyrics makes it a captivating number, as does its folksy style. Mountain Dialogue features MIKAS and blends melancholia and catharsis expertly. Visions brings with it some echoing Americana and some heightened emotion.

Title track The Game, a team-up with Icelandic producer Arnar Gudjonsson, closes the EP with an arrangement that gives plenty of space to Lucie’s vulnerable vocals and questioning lyrics, while also providing a cinematic instrumental. It’s a final highlight.

Lucie’s debut EP is such a thoughtful collection. It has plenty to say across its five tracks, and says it all through some beautifully composed tracks. Hers is a sound that’s easy to love, emoted richly by her soft vocals and accompanied perfectly by instrumentals that blend folk, acoustic and pop. It’s simply stunning.

The Game was recorded in Iceland, Scotland, Denmark and Los Angeles, USA. It’s released via Nashville, USA-based Tonetree and is out now. You can check it out below.
