Everything But The Everything drop Vol. Two of their A & B Sides

In 2022, Jane shared Everything But The Everything‘s EP A&B Sides, Vol. 1. At the time she described it as “cool” and “catchy.” Now, I run the rule over Vol. Two. How does it compare?

Based in the Bay Area of USA and led by bassist and multi-instrumentalist Izzy The Gent, Everything But The Everything are an alternative punk act who have appeared several times on our blog. They made Jane’s Monthly Favourite round up in June 2022 and she was so taken with their music that she even posed them some questions in an interview.

Making up the line-up alongside Izzy are vocalist Sophia Prise (another York Calling favourite), guitarist Ian Dowd, and drummer Chad Roxxit.

A & B Sides, Vol. Two once again gives us a dual taste of the Everything But The Everything sound.

Hotshot is a raw and jangly number that channels ’80s Goth punk to give us plenty of atmosphere. Sophia’s vocals are, as always, beautifully expressive, finding themselves at home in the genre and giving us some beautifully striking high notes that contrast the dark bass groove.

Salt is a little bouncier but doesn’t sacrifice any of the moody atmosphere created by Hotshot. Its instrumental is relentless while the vocals beautifully emote. A soaring chorus is a standout, while the wordplay on offer in the verses will raise a wry smile or two.

Vol. Two moves away from the lively punk of Vol. 1 but loses none of the uniqueness that makes Everything But The Everything who they are. Both EPs give us plenty considering they are two tracks each – they demand multiple relistens. Izzy and the band are doing some wonderful things on the other side of the world.

A & B Sides, Vol. Two was produced by Rex Shelverton. It’s out now and you can check it out below.
