Brighton-based rock band Trummerkind releases split album with Tim Holehouse, Falling Down The Rabbit Hole.
By Graeme Smith
Consisting of Rowen Silvester on vocals and bass, Robert Silverster on drums and percussion, and Oli Sturdy on guitar, Trummerkind are a trio who have featured a few times before on our blog. It was in March last year that I discovered their music through their track Superstar, and have shared a couple more since. Jane’s even posed Robert a few questions in an interview.
The band have been friends with Tim Holehouse for a long time, so doing a record together felt a natural fit. It certainly comes across that way while listening. The first half of the album is devoted to Trummerkind, while Tim takes us home in the second half.
The collection features previous favourites Killing Stalking and Beauty Queen, both bookended by the hypnotic, atmospheric, industrial Revolt and the intense Rise. The latter is a highlight thanks to its visceral, violent storytelling, biting vocals and dark and slow-building instrumental. A sense of adventure burns through its every note.
From Tim with get the pulsating blues of Pulsar, the moody witch house of Witching Hour, the brooding electronica of Creature, and This Atrocity. The album closer sees him team up with Eagle Spits to deliver a poetic, political odyssey over seven and a half minutes. A different, but complementary sound to Trummerkind’s hard rock, I found myself drawn in by each of his four tracks.
Collaborations are becoming an increasingly common element of modern music, but few have done it as well as Trummerkind and Tim Holehouse. This is a wonderful split effort from them.
Falling Down the Rabbit Hole is out now on the Aaahh!!! Real Records Label. Trummerkind’s songs were mastered by Duncan Chave. Rise was recorded and produced at Studio 8830 in Exeter by James F Harvey. Tim’s tracks were recorded and produced at Fire Place Studios in London.
