One-person Glaswegian alternative bedroom pop project Modern Family Music brings love and respect to a divided world with new single, The Unnamed Island.
By Graeme Smith
I was drawn to Modern Family Music’s track The Unnamed Island due to its uniqueness. There’s a certain nostalgia about it, but also a modern edge which makes it difficult to define. Soulful vocals float over a bed of layered electronica that manages to stay beautifully fresh throughout. Its thoughtful lyrics are the icing on the cake, giving us a bit of positivity in an increasingly gloomy world.
For their sound, Modern Family Music draws on inspiration from the likes of M.I.A., The Beach Boys and Gorillaz. If you like any of those artists, you’re going to love what they’ve done with it. I’m excited to see where the project goes.
The Unnamed Island was written and recorded at home, with vocals and mixing done in the studio. The track is out now and you can give it a listen below.
