In July, I shared Goodbye Ah, the single by Berlin, Germany-based Finnish composer Jonsjooel. The track was a meditation on the natural world, and so is its follow up, Somewhere Else Than Here.

Jonjooel’s latest leans into his jazz background to give a beautifully dynamic number with plenty of twists and turns. Hard-edged piano is met with smooth, ghostly vocals in a composition that has plenty of contrast and an atmosphere that will transport you to a land yet discovered. In creating the track, Jonsjooel pictured another dimension in which the spirit world lives, and he takes us there in a way only he could.
Somewhere Else Than Here will feature on Jonjooel’s upcoming EP Voices of A First Day, set for release 1 November 2024 via Kieku Records. The EP is inspired by Robert Lawlor’s similarly-titled book, Voices of the First Day which speaks of how aboriginal Australians have co-existed with nature for thousands of years. It’s something Jonjooel hopes will guide our modern society.
The single is out now and you can check out its video below.
