Jamie Doe, aka The Magic Lantern, returns with a new track and video, and the announcement of his fifth album, To Everything A Season.
By Graeme Smith
The Magic Lantern made it to these pages way back in 2018 thanks to his wistful acoustic track Lydia. Since then he’s been trumpeted by the likes of Jamie Cullum and Guy Garvey, who find his personal brand of music “original” and “beautiful.”
His new track and video Loops goes further to cement his reputation for thoughtful, emotional concepts, brooding on the experience of losing his father while welcoming his daughter to the world. It reflects on the cyclical nature of birth, aging and death through a flugelhorn and piano rich instrumental and Jamie’s soulful vocals. Its clever, captivating video completes the story.
To Everything A Season, Jamie’s fifth album, expands on this personal story and is set for release 11 October 2024 via Hectic Eclectic/La Buissonne Records. You can pre-order it here.
Jamie will be taking the album on tour throughout October and November, including a stop at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on 25 November, and at Sheffield’s Café #9 the following evening. Tickets are available here.
