Louie Lou Louis is a Brooklyn, USA-based singer songwriter of Haitian descent who has just come to our attention through his debut album, Moonlit Dream.

Addressing themes of identity, self-empowerment, and community, Louie starts the album by celebrating blackness in lead track po chokola. Opening with some bright vocalisations, we quickly arrive at an acoustic groove which nicely backs Louie’s soulful vocals. His lyrics are rich with imagery and love. It’s a welcoming intro.
Paper airplanes is laidback and memorable, bringing to mind the Stevie Wonder hit Isn’t She Lovely. Mango song deploys extended metaphor during a vibrant arrangement while the heights pays tribute to Louie’s corner of Brooklyn. Where i come from is a punchy a jazzy mid-album highlight.
Jango magrah provides a simmering and reflective moment. Monstre de saint-rémy is soft, wistful and rich with narrative. Stranger in town brings with a funky sense of movement before teta’s song gives us an intimate and acoustic end to the album.
In his debut album, Louie Lou Louis blends modernity and tradition beautifully. His soulful style and storytelling lyrics make each of its nine tracks compelling and full of life. It’s such a joyous album.
Moonlit Dream is set to be released on 7 February 2025.
