The inimitable jazzygold is set to release triumphant new EP

We’ve been covering the music of Faroe Islands-based soul pop singer songwriter jazzygold since 2023. Now she’s back with a new EP, it’s been a while.

Real name Jasmine Mote, jazzygold pulls from her unique experience to create highly compelling music. Previously, she’s shared her story of growing up as an outsider within the small Faroese community. Her new EP broadens the story, taking on topics such as identity, resilience, and self-discovery.

The EP opens with the gentle and atmospheric welcome to my head. The lyrics have a confessional feel and are sung beautifully by jazzygold’s inimitably soulful vocals. The track really comes into its element during a powerful, cathartic chorus. It’s a strong start.

Homerun has featured before on this blog, and within the context of the EP provides a bombastic and contemplative highlight. Ex-friends is bluesy and biting while here for the ride gives us pulsating pop. We’re alright is a gentle and romantic moment before gold closes the EP with a bit of self-affirmation. It’s a final highlight.

Through her music, jazzygold makes her life’s difficulties into her strengths. She’s a hell of a singer, an astute lyricist and is truly doing something no-one else is. I’ve declared myself a fan before, but it bears repeating. Her new EP is a triumph.

It’s been a while is set for release on 28 February 2025 via Tutl Records. You can pre-save it here.
