There comes a point in all of our coming of age journeys that we must confess that our life lay ahead of us, unknown and unplanned. That’s the inspiration for the latest single by Sheffield’s sadbot, Don’t Really Know Where I’m Going.
By Graeme Smith
Opening with some ’80s synth textures, there’s instantly a feeling of nostalgia about the track. It slowly builds into a pop groove in which sadbot’s soulful vocals take centre stage. Its blend of old and new makes it feel wonderfully unique, especially during an otherworldly chorus.
Sadbot beautifully captures the emotion of youthful uncertainty in the track’s relatable lyrics. He really has plugged into something with his latest single. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the moments when you feel overwhelmed – you are truly not alone.
With a fresh sound and a style that’s easy to love, I can see a bright future ahead for sadbot. He’s been championed by BBC Introducing and Radio 1’s Jodie Bryant, and I’m sure they’ll be a lot more plaudits to come. We certainly thank him for flying the flag for Yorkshire. He’s the latest act showing the diversity of our fair county.
Don’t Really Know Where I’m Going is out now and you can give it a listen below.
