I can’t help but feel it’s given her a unique outlook if her music is anything to go by. Her latest single, When The Light Falls and the Bear Sleeps, blends Western folk with something a little otherworldly. Her vocals captivate, as do her poetic, image-laden lyrics. An ethereal chorus proves a highlight, blending in neoclassical elements to haunting effect.
The track was written in the depths of the German winter in Emaline’s tiny Berlin apartment. The weather had made her nostalgic for previous winters spent in rural Mecklenburg Vorpommern as well as on the other side of the world in Western Canada. She longed for simpler times, struggling with her mental health.
Emaline has such a beautiful and honest sound. I consider myself an instant fan. She has an album on the way in the Spring and she’ll be coming to York to help celebrate its release. Stay tuned for details about tickets.
When The Light Falls and the Bear Sleeps is out now, available to buy as a digital album or on limited edition CD via Bandcamp. You can give the single a listen below.
