There was a time when motor racing was a peak of glamour. Risking one’s mortality for the sake of sport was all the rage, and was rewarded with wealth, fame, and attention.

Things have got a little more sensible since then, at least as far as motor racing is concerned, but there are still pockets in the world that get off on the idea doing something almost suicidal.
With their latest track and video, Leicester-based rockers 9 o’clock Nasty skewer this mentality, taking an ironic look at the world of the Playboy Driver. A Nick Mailing “supermix” goes hard, giving us heavy beats, edgy riffs and powerful percussion. You can practically hear the octanes.
As ever, 9 o’clock Nasty don’t hold back with their chanting vocals, trading blows in the verse before growling through the chorus.
The track comes hot on the wheels of the band’s album This Is Crowland which takes on the idea of a fictional “good old days” version of the UK. It’s something of a victory lap for them, but they won’t be pitting in anytime soon. A new album is already being fuelled up, with its first single getting a green light in May 2025. (Sorry, I’ll stop now.)
Playboy Driver is out now and you can give it a listen below.
