Discovery: William Carlos Whitten and Diana Crash team up for retro-modern boundary pusher

There’s something beautifully unique about William Carlos Whitten and Diana Crash’s music. It feels indescribable, but I’ll give it a go.

By Graeme Smith

A pulsating, ’80s noir beat opens Heaven Is a Face before we get some chanting vocals. Things grow to a hypnotic groove which then suddenly breaks before building back again. It tears up the rulebook of popular music yet somehow really works. I’ve heard very little like it.

Whitten and Crash met in a laundromat, bonding over literature and music. From the chance meeting, their album Telepaths, from which Heaven Is a Face is taken, was born.

Telepaths is out now and you can buy it as a digital album through Bandcamp. You can give Heaven Is a Face a listen below.
