Amsterdam, Netherlands-based indie rock outfit KATHMANDU are fast becoming regulars on this blog. With tracks like their latest, Wild Wind, it’s no surprise.

Wild Wind is about the feeling of liberation and confidence after a difficult period,” say the band. “The lyrics reflect on the mental storm that raged while letting go of the past, but ultimately the feeling of relief and new energy prevails.”

As you might expect from that description, it’s a lively number. The opening feels wonderfully throwback, channelling the best of ’60s and ’70s rock while bringing the sound up to date with lush production and modern edge. As ever, frontwoman Donna Marie’s vocals are captivating, as are the poetic lyrics.

KATHMANDU first came to our attention only two weeks ago, debuting on our pages at the beginning of April 2025 through their vibrant and ponderous track, Different Life. I said at the time that I was looking forward to getting better acquainted with them, and Wild Wind certainly doesn’t disappoint. The band have a timeless sound and oodles of charisma. If you like your indie pop on the introspective yet uplifting side, then you need to check them out.

Wild Wind is out now and you can give it a listen below.
