With her debut album, Ainsley gives us lively, vibrant pop that defies convention with its lyrics, celebrating singledom when the rest of the world seems to be falling in and out of love.

It divides its time between emotional ballads and bright pop numbers like THEREGOESMY! and album opener EXLESS.

Throughout, lyrics encourage independence such as in the pop rock Change Your Mind which reminds listeners they are in charge of their own romantic encounters. It’s a highlight.

Costello has a knack for storytelling and EXLESS is full of modern, relatable, empowering sentiments – not just empty platitudes. Closer Alchemy is a particularly strong example thanks to its memorable wordplay.
