Discovery: Grace Davies

Grace Davies is a British pop singer whose new track Amsterdam had me drawing comparisons with Paloma Faith in my mind.

Amsterdam is about the feeling we all get when someone we’re intimidated by comes into our partner’s life. Grace herself compares it to Dolly Parton’s Jolene but I also found myself thinking of Paloma Faith’s New York, not least because of the city references. The crowning achievement of Amsterdam is the simple but effective refrain “damn you, Amsterdam” which serves as a familiar base from which a huge composition is launched.

Amsterdam is full of real, relatable emotion and Grace delivers it well with her big voice. Check it out below.
