Stephen Durkan is a post punk artist and poet from Glasgow, Scotland. His debut track I Want takes on the selfishness and contradictions of modern culture.

With Stephen’s Glasgow twang and a similar ethos, I couldn’t help but think of the Trainspotting “Choose Life” speech while listening to I Want. It certainly has a similar vibe, but the lyrics reflect the 2020’s rather than the ’90s. Stephen touches on everything in his compact spoken word track – sex, social media, fame, gender identity. It all unfold against a severe electronic beat that builds into moments of calamity.
It’s a searing debut, and there’s an EP expected in early 2022 to look forward to. In the meantime, check out the video, directed by Stephen, below.
