Carli Brill is an American nu-jazz artist whose new track marries Bossa Nova beats with poetic, relatable lyrics. It’s called Kaleidoscope.
By Graeme Smith
The track opens with gentle acoustic guitar, setting the mood before Carli’s charismatic vocals float in. The lyrics are instantly arresting, cutting straight to the matter, and the chorus provides the emotive crescendo its subject richly deserves.
Inspired by ’50s and ’60s pop like The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Mamas and The Papas, Carli provides homage to their classic song writing style while also sounding thoroughly modern. There’s a lot to love about her sound.
