Video: Marc Bird – Avatar

Marc Bird is a Hebden Bridge-based alternative folk singer songwriter who has graced our pages a few times now, culminating in an interview with Jane earlier this month. Ever prolific, he’s back already, this time with track and video Avatar.

There’s a timelessness to Marc Bird’s sound. It would fit as comfortably in 1952 as it does in 2022. Gentle acoustic guitar mingles with his unmistakably haunting voice which delivers poetic, image-rich lyrics. The whole arrangement is then elevated by mournful strings and explodes with percussive rhythm part-way through.

Marc’s influences include Cate Le Bon and Sufjan Stevens, but this track in particular has some Gallic inspiration in the form of Belgian artist Jacques Brel. You can check out the video for Avatar below.
